Écuries
In one of the oldest neighbourhoods of Schaerbeek lies the iconic building “Les Ecuries van de Tram,” a former tram stable which is part of the closed enclave of the STIB tram depot.
The building is located in a compact urban fabric in a densely populated neighbourhood struggling with a lack of meeting places. The building opened its doors to the public thanks to the arrival of an market and brewery a few years ago, reactivating the building and giving local residents the opportunity to rediscover this mysterious 19th century monolith.
The new project entails the building's renovation and adaptive reuse by incorporating a school function and strengthening its integration with the neighbourhood. Grounded in principles of sustainability and circularity, the project reconsiders spatial organisation and internal flows, focusing on preserving the existing structure and maximising targeted, precise interventions.
